Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 18, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Law Guide USA (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you visit lawguideusa.com (the “Site”). Law Guide USA publishes free, plain-English guides about U.S. law, including personal injury, family law, criminal law, employment law, estate planning, and state-specific legal topics. By using the Site, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Information We Collect

Information you give us

  • Newsletter sign-ups: when you subscribe to The Weekly Legal Brief, we collect your email address.
  • Comments: if you leave a comment on an article, we collect the name, email address, and website (optional) you enter, the comment itself, and your IP address and browser information to help detect spam.
  • Messages: if you email us, we receive your email address and anything you choose to include in your message.

Please do not send us confidential or sensitive details about your legal situation. Our guides are general information, and we cannot provide legal advice or keep your messages under attorney–client privilege.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our web server automatically records standard technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, referring page, pages viewed, and the date and time of your visit. This information is used to keep the Site secure, diagnose problems, and understand overall usage.

Cookies

The Site uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies that are needed for it to work:

  • Comment cookies: if you leave a comment, you may choose to save your name, email, and website in cookies so you do not have to re-enter them next time. These last for one year.
  • Login cookies: used only for site administrators and editors who sign in to manage the Site.
  • Functional storage: our page builder may store small preferences in your browser so pages display correctly.

We do not currently use advertising cookies or third-party analytics on the Site. If that changes, we will update this policy. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings; some features, such as remembering comment details, may not work without them.

How We Use Your Information

  • To publish and maintain our legal guides and keep the Site running securely.
  • To send The Weekly Legal Brief to subscribers. Every email includes a way to unsubscribe.
  • To display and moderate comments and filter spam.
  • To respond to messages you send us.
  • To understand which topics are useful to readers and improve our content.
  • To comply with legal obligations and protect the rights and safety of our readers and the Site.

How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only in these limited situations:

  • Service providers who help us operate the Site, such as our web hosting provider and, if we add one, an email newsletter service. They may only use the information to provide services to us.
  • Google Fonts: the Site loads fonts from Google’s servers, which means your browser sends your IP address to Google when pages load. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
  • Legal requirements: when required by law, court order, or other legal process, or to protect our rights, our readers, or others.
  • Business transfers: if the Site is sold or transferred, reader information may be transferred to the new owner under the same protections.

Embedded Content and Links

Articles may link to or embed content from other websites, such as government agencies, courts, or news sources. Those websites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for how they collect or use your information.

How Long We Keep Information

  • Newsletter email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
  • Comments and their metadata are kept so that follow-up comments can be recognized and approved automatically.
  • Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to respond and for reasonable record-keeping.
  • Server logs are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.

How We Protect Information

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections, to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct or delete your personal information.
  • Opt out of marketing emails at any time by using the unsubscribe link or contacting us.
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights.

California residents: under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), you have the rights listed above. In the past 12 months we have collected identifiers (such as email address and IP address) and internet activity information (such as pages viewed) for the purposes described in this policy. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by California law. Residents of other states with consumer privacy laws, such as Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and Texas, may have similar rights.

Visitors outside the United States: the Site is operated in the United States. If you visit from another country, your information will be processed in the United States. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you may also have the right to object to or restrict certain processing and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To make a request, email us at contact@lawguideusa.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on your request, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Because we do not track visitors across other websites or sell personal information, the Site works the same way whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal.

Children’s Privacy

The Site is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be highlighted on the Site.
